WELDWATCHER®
The WELDWATCHER® is our complete solution for monitoring industrial laser material processing.
Laser material processing emits a broadband light, the so-called process light. Its characteristics like spectrum and intensity correlate with many properties of the process.
The WELDWATCHER® captures the process light. With the aid of a photoelectric sensor, the process light is converted into an electrical signal and transmitted to the WELDWATCHER® software. The WELDWATCHER® software converts the electrical signal into a digital signal, the process signal.
The WELDWATCHER® software analyzes the typical attributes of the process light such as radiance, spectral components, time duration and signal curve. The process signal is then evaluated.
The process signal is compared with a stored reference and evaluated as OK or not OK during the evaluation. If the WELDWATCHER® has been configured for a specific application, then conclusions can be drawn from this evaluation. If the process signal was evaluated as OK, for example, then the quality of the corresponding weld seam is also OK. This can help with the quality control of the components.

Multi-spectral process monitoring enhances capabilities to achieve higher hit-rates for OK/NOK detection and empowers users to better distinguish fault classes in order to solve root causes of production problems more quickly. In order to unleash the full potential of multi-spectral process monitoring we recommend to supply the sensor with all wavelengths of the process emissions. Optical paths may have obstacles hindering certain wavelengths to travel into the sensor. In order to provide the widest spectrum we recommend to install the sensor/fiber not in laser sources but in appropriate optical interfaces at processing heads. Make sure to check the vendor’s transmission curves of the designated port prior to purchasing optical head.
